When choosing and buying breastfeeding clothes, there are three important things to keep in mind: comfort and function and style.

As for comfort, you should consider both fabrics with “give” and cotton. You are going to have a bouncy bundle of joy – and you are going to have to be able to keep up with him or her. Make sure that you have breastfeeding clothes that stretch with you as you bounce along after with your baby. Cotton is a great fabric because it is soft and breathable – both you and your baby will love it. Also, wearing cotton can lessen your chances of getting thrush, a yeast infection of the nipples that can be caused by dampness around the nipples.

As for function, the most important feature of breastfeeding clothes is the opening. The vast majority of breastfeeding clothes have two layers – an upper layer that can drop or be raised to expose the breast and the inner layer. Make sure that the latch and opening of the upper layer are easy to deal with – remember, you are going to have that bouncing bundle of joy at your side; he or she will be hungry and complaining; and you will only have one free hand. Try on your breast feeding clothes before buying them and ensure that you can easily unclasp them.

As for style, remember that you deserve to have a little style in your life! Some mothers do not want to spend money on breastfeeding clothes that they will only be wearing for a year or less. This does make some sense, but realize that there are actually some great deals on stylish breastfeeding clothes, you need only to look for them. Also, it is very important that a mother feels beautiful (because she is), and being able to look and feel stylish can really help.
