Spring
is here and swimsuit season is fast approaching. As if it isn’t
difficult enough to find a flattering swimsuit without having to worry
about covering up a beach ball-sized stomach. Even with your changing
body type, most of the style rules remain the same. Use dark colors
and minimal designs on areas you want to minimize. Save the bold, flashy
colors and prints for areas you want to flaunt. Horizontal stripes widen,
vertical stripes elongate, and diagonal stripes add curves.
Truly though, pregnancy is a time to be proud of your changing figure.
Embrace those curves. What other time in your life can you display a
round tummy with such pleasure? There are still decisions to be made
about what type of swimsuit you prefer, as the same styles work on a
pregnant figure. You can choose from a full-coverage swimsuit, tankini,
or bikini. Base your decision on what makes you feel most comfortable.
Most likely whatever you wore to the pool or beach in your pre-pregnancy
state is what you will choose now. Some women feel more confident with
their bodies during pregnancy and others want to hide their tummies
a bit more. It’s all up to you.
There are very few women who are able to keep wearing a non-maternity
swimsuit throughout their entire pregnancy. Usually by the second trimester
it’s time to shop for a maternity swimsuit. Depending on if you
carry your baby high or low during your pregnancy can make a difference
in the type of bottoms you would choose in a two-piece swimsuit. The
lower your baby is, the more likely you will want bottoms with a more
supportive waistband. Realize that you may have to purchase more than
one swimsuit for the different phases of your pregnancy. It is not healthy
for your baby if you are wearing bottoms that are too tight, not to
mention uncomfortable and unflattering for you.
Most maternity swimsuit sizes are adjusted to reflect the same size
you would have purchased pre-pregnancy. Plan on purchasing your normal
size, but realize some sizes may be different depending on the style
of swimsuit or how much your body has changed. Once you find that perfect
or semi-perfect swimsuit, wear it with confidence.
