While
the name nursing clothes doesn’t exactly bring to your mind the
image of sexy, there’s nothing that says they can’t be both.
You don’t have to look frumpy to achieve the convenience of nursing
attire. Believe it or not, there are many options to looking cute and
keeping comfortable while nursing. Some tips for what to look for when
shopping for nursing clothes are ease of feeding baby, comfortable fabrics
and the ability to keep discreet.
Many nursing tops are made with subtle slits in the bust that are either
covered with another layer of material or blend into the folds of fabric.
These come in many different styles and are very easy to feed your baby
without having to lift up your shirt or undo various straps. Also extremely
easy to feed baby in any setting are the wrap shirts or dresses. With
these styles, you merely pull the blouse to the side when nursing your
baby. Some of them also come with a tube top underneath that will lift
up when the shirt is pulled to the side. In the summer, another nice
option is to wear a tank top with detachable straps. Many of these tops
also have a bra built in so you don’t have to worry about thick
nursing bra straps peeking out. Nursing tank tops also are nice to wear
underneath warmer clothes as you maintain coverage on your stomach when
your outer layer is pulled up to feed baby.
Breathable, comfortable material is essential to nursing comfort for
both you and baby. Not only do you need more airflow to keep things
feeling drier while breastfeeding, but it is important not to wear fabric
that could irritate your newborn’s sensitive skin. Flowing styles
help contribute to this as do breathable materials with cotton or silk
blends. Of course there are times when cotton won’t equate sexy
for a specific event, but for daily use it is a good option. Equally
important as what you wear during the day is making sure your sleep
attire also is comfortable and unrestrictive.
Obviously you will need to nurse your baby in public locations at times
and should do so proudly. Yet there is something to be said for the
fashionable mama who is discreet when styles allow it. Nursing ponchos
and various styles of covers are available for the nursing mother who
wants extra coverage while breastfeeding. These typically allow for
more freedom of your hands than if you try to keep a blanket over your
baby for coverage. Another nice option for nursing attire is a BellySock,
which is essentially a tube top that stays below your bust line. This
allows you to wear any shirt style and still keep your stomach covered
while breastfeeding your baby.
Essentially, the nursing style options vary greatly and much of it
depends on the lifestyle you lead and the amount of coverage you want.
Wear whatever makes you feel like the sexy mama you are and be proud
that you are supplying your baby with the optimal nutrients of breast
milk.
